Chainsmoker Cat FAQ

Chainsmoker Cat is the English title of the Yani Neko television anime, which began broadcasting in Japan in July 2026. It adapts NyanNyanFactory's manga from Kodansha's Young Magazine line.

The series follows Yanineko, whose official Japanese personal name is 佐藤ヤニ子, as cigarettes, rent, work, family pressure, and an unruly apartment keep colliding. The official character and story pages confirm the name and episode setup.

For the original Japanese and English titles, see the Yani Neko title guide.

The official anime schedule lists Netflix and other services, but availability, version, subtitles, and audio can differ by account and region. The official table confirms the services and version labels; the licensed player confirms what your account can watch.

The schedule also distinguishes the On-Air Version from the Evil Dragon Unleashed Version for selected services. Do not treat a service name or a search result as proof that every version is available everywhere.

Use the where to watch guide for the region and version checks.

Animation Crazy suspended Chainsmoker Cat for Hong Kong viewers in August 2026 after Hong Kong health authorities raised concerns under the territory's tobacco-advertising rules.

Ani-One removed the series from its YouTube channels in relevant markets, citing compliance with local government regulations. Those changes are region- and platform-specific; they do not establish a worldwide ban or the loss of every legal stream.

See the practical platform notes in the where to watch guide.

Yanineko (佐藤ヤニ子) is the main character, and Yuko Natsuyoshi performs the role in the Japanese cast. Yakuneko (越司丸益子) is voiced by Misato Matsuoka, while the official cast page identifies the rest of the supporting lineup.

Aliases are important because the official character cards and episode discussions often use Yanineko, Yakuneko, Hameneko, Kansaineko, and Aruneko more prominently than the full personal names.

See dates and ISBNs in the English volume guide.

Smoking, alcohol, messy living conditions, adult frustration, and gross-out comedy are core parts of the premise. Cute catgirl character designs do not make it a children's series.

For story order, start with Episode 1 and continue through Episode 12, the confirmed final episode. Episodes 6–8 add Penpen Neko, Sato Shizue, and Nishi Shunran; later guides cover the Kyoto trip and finale.

Read the age and content guide before choosing a service or version.
